Most Interesting Fact About Black DeathThe thing that I found most interesting about my topic, the Black Death plague, was that it spread so far around Europe. It started in a harbor in Caffa, Italy, when a Mongol army hurled diseased bodies over Caffa’s walls in what the CDC describes as “the most spectacular incident of biological warfare ever.” It spread from Italy to France, Spain, Portugal, and England by June of 1348. From 1348 to 1350, it spread through Germany and Scandinavia. Its last place reached in Europe was Russia in 1351. Before it even got to Europe in 1347, it had run its course in Asia. This means it had crossed all the way across two continents, one in just 5 years. Bubonic plague is still technically around today, but on a miniscule scale in comparison to the Middle Ages: less than 100 people contract it each year, and the mortality rate is low developed nations. Even though it isn’t feared much today, Black Death was the true ruling force of mid-1300’s Europe.
